The Season 3 World Championship for League of Legends drew record viewership last month as 32 million people tuned in to watch the finals. Developer Riot Games’s multiplayer online battle arena game (MOBA) was streamed online and broadcast on television networks in China and Korea.

The finals where hosted last month at the Los Angeles’s Staples Center where 13,000 fans watched the competition live. 32 million viewers watched during some part of the event with 8.5 million tuning in for the final battle.

In comparison the entire viewership for Season 2 League of Legends last year drew 8.2 millions viewers. While this is a massive amount it’s still a long way off form Riot Games’ goal to trump the Superbowl. Super Bowl XLVII last year had about 111 million viewers.

"We're beyond humbled by your passion for and commitment to League of Legends," states Riot Games.
