Lay's has announced that it will introduce a chocolate-covered potato chip next week. Formally known as the Lay's Wavy Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate, a five-ounce bag of the limited-edition chips will go for $3.49. The mashup of salty, yet sweet treats is a continuing trend, and USA Today notes that specialty snacks like this are traditionally introduced between Halloween and New Year's. But the introduction of these specialty snacks could be linked to another trend.
Research experts Symphony IRI say that snacking as a whole is on the rise, as 43 percent of consumers enjoy three or four per day now compared to 24 percent in 2009.
