Last night YouTube held its first-ever Music Awards Show and, well, it wasn't a total shit show. Between Jason Schwartzman's bad jokes, censoring just about everyhing, and sloppy performances from Avicii and Lady Gaga, there were actually a few bright spots. But hey, no awards show is going to get it right the first time around. So to help, we enlisted the wisdom of the Republic of Twitter (that oh so democratic nation of self-appointed pundits) to provide some sage advice on how to improve next year's show. You'll be glad you listened to us.

Better overall quality. General award show rule: Viewers don't want to feel like they're watching artists perform on a subway platform during rush hour in NYC.
Don't censor artists. After all, IT'S THE INTERNET!
Have a clear idea of what kind of awards show you are trying to achieve.
Honor the right Internet stars with awards.
More short films, less Jason Schwartzman.
Better show production.
Include more "live music videos" next year.
Enhance fan engagement.
Do the opposite of healthcare.gov. #sorrynotsorryObama
Try not to be like the Teen Choice Awards. That's not good for anybody.
