Those of you who have watched or are planning to watch The Counselor, here's an interesting tidbit of trivia: Apparently, all of Cameron Diaz's lines in the film were rerecorded in post-production. Not a big deal, normally, but this revelation from The Hollywood Reporter definitely sets it apart—according to them, she was reportedly asked to rerecord her lines because, originally, she sounded too much like Rihanna for producers' liking.
During production of the film, Diaz was apparently speaking "with a full-on Rihanna-style accent"—an odd choice considering Rihanna is from Barbados, and her character, Malkina, is Argentinian. When executives viewed the film, they disliked it immensly, and early cuts of the film tested badly with audiences because of Diaz's accent. Definitely not because of that one part where she has sex with a car.
Despite Diaz's rerecording, The Counselor still tanked in theaters: The film opened to only $3.2 million last month, and, currently, it holds a sad 37 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe they should have kept the Rihanna-esque accent in after all—then, at least people might go see it just for that.
