Sony announced recently that the PS4 will be subject to a substantial day one update that will enable seemingly indispensable features like DVD and Blu-ray playback, voice chat, and PS Vita Remote Play. Given what happened with the Wii U, when day one purchasers couldn't use the console for several hours while it downloaded and installed a massive patch, gamers did not take this as good news.

Thankfully, the update will be released ahead of the console's launch, and users can put it on a USB stick and install it manually instead. But those features should definitely have been included on the PS4 to begin with so it could work out of the box with minimal set-up required.
