Here's some strange/potentially great casting news to end your day with: As rumored, Tom Hardy will officially portray Elton John in an upcoming biopic titled Rocketman from first time director Michael Gracey and War Horse scribe Lee Hall.

According to Deadline, the film will follow "John’s journey from 5-year old musical prodigy who by age 11 won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, to a young man who rebelled against his strict upbringing, wore outrageous costumes and became a global icon who teamed with songwriter Bernie Taupin to sell more records than just about any musical artist of his era." Producers have also acquired John's music catalog, so no Jackie Jormp-Jomp-esque improvisations here—and The Verge even reports that John will be re-recording some of his most famous hits for the film.

Additionally, John's company, Rocket Pictures, is set to produce the project, and the film is expected to get a "major" release nationwide.
