Author Tom Clancy has reportedly passed away at the age of 66, the New York Times is reporting

The details are fairly vague at this time, but Clancy's publisher, G. P. Putnam’s Sons, did confirm that the author passed away at a hospital in Baltimore last night.

Clancy was the best-selling writer behind the wildly popular Jack Ryan series, which included novels like The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger. Many of his books were turned into major Hollywood films as well, and he's had a total of 17 novels hit number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Clancy's final book, Command Authority, is expected to be published on December 3.
