Twitter’s origin story could soon be immortalized in a major motion picture or TV series, just as Facebook’s was in the David Fincher-directed Social Network.

According to a TechCrunch reported citing unnamed sources, several “major” Hollywood studios, including Sony pictures, are interested in producing a film based on the creation of Twitter, with the forthcoming book Hatching Twitter: A True Story of Money, Power, Friendship, and Betrayal serving as the source material. The book, authored by New York Times tech columnist Nick Bilton, is out on November 5, and promises to chronicle the beginnings of the social network. In an excerpt published in the Times, Hatching Twitter is revealed to be chock-full of power moves and in-fighting - perfect fodder for silver screen entertainment.

In addition to Sony’s interest, TechCrunch reports that one of the studios vying for the film is interested in turning the project into a Netflix- or HBO-style original.
