Milk Could Cost $8 Per Gallon by Next Year

Outrageous.

Despite the federal government shutdown being over for two weeks, bickering between Republicans and Democrats could continue to hurt us common folk, hitting us where it counts—our pockets. ABC News reports that milk prices could double to $8 per gallon by January if a common ground on farm price supports is not reached.

The two sides are currently embroiled in a battle over an $80 billion-per-year food stamp program. With no deal in place, unlucky consumers could have to pay absurd prices for milk. While House and Senate members are slated to begin talks regarding a five-year farm bill this week, neither side can agree on how much money to remove from the food stamp program.

So who could potentially lose in the long run? Us.
