While we reported that a mobile remake of Final Fantasy VI is coming soon, it seemed obvious that we also wanted to know if a mobile Final Fantasy VII was going to make the jump to mobile as well.

Square Enix made a coy aside that they would like to do Final Fantasy VII as a mobile remake. Well, it turns out we may still have a way to go on that remake.

Producer Takashi Tokita to Shacknews:

"Unfortunately, it's not that it's not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile," Tokita told Shacknews. "It's that currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years."

Apple imposes a 2GB limit on iOS games and FFVII came bundeled on three seperate discs when it dropped on the PS1 back in the day.

"It's definitely going to be years before we do the port," Tokita added.

Bummer. You know what doesn't look like a bummer? Final Fantasy Lightning Returns.
