When word spread that Walmarts in Springhill and Mansfield, LA, had experienced a glitch that eliminated EBT card spending limits, customers rushed the store, food flew off the shelves, but most of it stayed in packed shopping carts left deserted by all those who had flocked over to take advantage of the glitch.
For about two hours on Saturday night, customers took food off of the shelves and stuffed them into overflowing carts, and as the cards overflowed, so did their tempers. Police were called in order to control the crowds after Walmart was told to continue accepting the EBT cards even though the limits for each individual card wasn't being displayed. One woman had to be escorted out around 9 p.m. when the glitch was fixed and limits began showing up again. She reportedly tried ringing up $700.00 worth of food, though she only had $.49 left on her card. "Just about everything is gone, I've never seen it in that condition," said Mansfield Walmart customer Anthony Fuller.
Around that time, employees got on a loudspeaker and announced that limits were indeed showing up again, and customers left, leaving endless amounts of food just sitting in the aisles (aka, you were about to have a bad time if you work there.) Though some people were able to take advantage of the glitch, Walmart says that were monitoring the transactions during that window of time, so those people may be literally paying for their purchases sometime down the line.
