There's Enough Material For Two Versions of "Anchorman 2"

Raise your hand if you would definitely watch two versions of this movie.

Would you watch an alternate version of Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgundy if it involved all new jokes and scenes? Well, good news: According to the film's director, Adam McKay, there's enough material for two versions of the film that if he were to recut the entire thing, he wouldn't need to use any joke twice.

"We did so much improv on this one that we can literally replace every single joke in the movie and put in alt scenes and alt improv runs," he explained to Empire Online. "I think it would be really funny to put it in theatres for midnight showings. I know that I personally, if I loved a movie and someone told me that, like if Airplane! had been released with all-new jokes, I'd be like, 'you've got to be fucking kidding me!' I’d see it in a second." Us too, Adam McKay, us too.

Apparently, it's not only jokes that could easily be replaced—full scenes could be added as well. "We shot a whole chunk for it that’s not in the movie where Brian Fantana [Paul Rudd] explained how he called the police and he called the federal government trying to find out if [crack is] legal or not and everyone hung up on him, so he assumes it's legal." This needs to be on the deleted features, at the very least.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is set to be released on December 20th.
