“Watch Dogs” Will Run At 30 FPS On PS4, Xbox One

That must be one busy game.

Ubisoft has announced that Watch Dogs will run at 30 FPS on PS4 and Xbox One, citing a level of balance they want to maintain with the game’s open world and its various goings-on, according to an interview with Videogamer.com.

“I think for where we are, the most important thing is the steadiness,” Creative Director Jonathan Morin said in the interview. “That it's always capped the same so when you play it, it feels right.”

Judging from how the game looks on current-gen hardware – the game’s design seems to far outpace what the comparatively ancient processors on the PS3 and Xbox 360 are capable of – making the game a solid 30 FPS on next-gen platforms rather than shooting for 60 FPS seems like a logical choice.

Given the sheer amount of detail present in Watch Dogs’ world, not to mention the level immersion and player choice the developers are shooting for – it just doesn’t seem possible to hit a high of 60 FPS with that much else going on. Does it matter that much? Probably not. The game looks pretty slick even at a slightly less silky framerate.
