It's official: According to Deadline, that oft-rumored Saul Goodman Breaking Bad spinoff is happening, and it's has been given a formal greenlight from Sony

As it's still pretty early in development, there isn't much information out there about what to expect, except that Bob Odenkirk will star, it'll be a prequel—meaning, Saul could still die in the upcoming Breaking Bad series finale—and will be written by Peter Gould, who created the character of Saul for a season two episode of Breaking Bad. Also, it'll be called Better Call Saul, because there would be absolutely no point to this whole thing if it wasn't.

Additionally—according to The Hollywood Reporter, Better Call Saul will be an hour-long, and "will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter White's lawyer." So, expect lots of character studies in this joint, and possibly an appearance from the dearly departed Mike Ehrmantraut.
