Just in time for its early 2014 release, Robocop has received a huge makeover, judging by this new trailer for José Padilha's take on the machine man franchise. In terms of plot, both this film and the 1987 version seem to be similar: Police officer Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is turned into a crime-fighting machine called RoboCop after being injured on the job, and is then unleashed onto the streets of Detroit to stomp out crime with his steel foot—but he retains his love for his (obviously hot) wife (Abbie Cornish) and ther son together, and everyone eventually has to ask themselves the question: Can man really conquer machine? Spoiler alert: Probably, because that's how these movies work.

There are, of course, a few differences between the 1987 version and this film: RoboCop has received a sleek makeover to make him look more "tactical" and 21st century-like, and also everyone has cell phones, and the special effects are a lot better than they were in the '80s. Michael Keaton is there too, which was definitely not in the first film.

You can check out the trailer above. José Padilha's RoboCop is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2014.
