Recently Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida told FF fans eagerly awaiting the next installment in Square-Enix’s powerhouse RPG series they should definitely play the game on PS4, and with good reason. While FFXIV has already launched for PS3 and PC, the next-gen PS4 version will offer better resolution and performance, including more characters on-screen, Yoshida said.
No surprise there, really, and as a bonus to console owners Square’s even letting PS3 players upgrade to the PS4 version of the game for free. Now Yoshida has confirmed in an interview with Game Watch that the game will run at 60 FPS in 1080p – the equivalent of the highest PC settings – on Sony’s next-gen hardware, as well as featuring full mouse and keyboard support as well as functionality with the new Dualshock’s touchpad.
While it’s unclear whether or not the game will stay at 60 FPS even with tons of activity on the screen, the fact that FFXIV is hitting that high mark at all is probably good news for the performance on the PS4 game, which the Yoshida said has “memory to spare”.
FFXV and Kingdom Hearts III may be still be a long way off, but at least we know whenever they do come out they will, with any luck, be able to utilize bleeding edge performance.
