Taking your passion project to Kickstarter or Indiegogo is a dicey move.

On the one hand, if your project is funded, you get complete creative control of your project from concept to execution. If you fail to meet your goal, well, there have been plenty of examples of brilliant ideas that failed to gain any traction beyond their pitch videos. Projects like Double Fine Adventure, Shadowrun Returns , and Wasteland 2 have all crushed their campaigns and are all point to the power of crowdfunding.

2013 has been a massive year for video game projects on Kickstarter and Indiegogo and these are some of the standouts that you still have time to help fund. Get in on the ground floor of these 10 Video Game Projects You Should be Funding on Kickstarter and Indiegogo

Not Available Interstitial

Is it just us or is the music in this pitch video fucking amazing? Like Rainbow bright having a seizure inside of a gumball machine. This HD side scrolling adventure comes courtesy of WayForward. These are the same people behind Ducktales Remastered, Adventure Time, and Contra 4. So who the hell is Shantae? Shantae? Apparently she's a human/genie hybrid (a Half-Genie) who hair-whips monsters with her ponytail, and belly dances to transform into magical creatures. Sure, we're in. Watch the trailer and bellydance this way to donate.

GENERAL CHAOS II: Sons Of Chaos

"A Canadian point-and-click adventure game about lost identity in a bureaucratic world. A project for the Foundation Fighting Blindness."

Sounds like it could end have ended up on our list of seemingly boring video games which are actually awesome, and that's a very good thing. Documenting the hellish landscape of contemporary anonymity in the corporate world, this game also doubles as an exploration of identity. You'll also be donating to a charity, so you can pat yourself on the back for that. Watch the trailer and donate if you hate blindness.

Guys, Mutant Football League remake! What about that last sentence is keeping your money in your wallet? It's three simple words. Mutants, sure we all love those; Football, duh; League, that's a measurement boats use. Watch the pitch video and for the love of god, donate here.

The Long Dark

Not Available Interstitial

The Long Dark asks what you would do to survive in a post-disaster world. According to the developers,

"Flying a routine mail delivery in the Northern wilderness, bush pilot William Mackenzie witnesses mysterious lights flaring across the sky. Suddenly, his trusty DeHavilland Beaver loses power and crashes into the dense mountain forest below.

Stranded far from the closest human habitation -- lost, wounded, alone, and with wolves circling -- Mackenzie will have to quickly master basic wilderness survival skills if he's to last long enough to understand what he just witnessed, and how his world has just changed."

The game looks like a sparse and challenging approach to survival in a post-industrial world. Watch the trailer and test your skills by donating here.

Mighty No. 9

Billed as the spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise, the development team is headed by Keiji Inafune and an entire staff of Mega Man vets. And let's be honest, Mega Man as a series has been a collection of disappointments for some time now. WIth a modest of $900,000 crushed in less than 24 hours, the team currently stands at over $2 million in funding. Now would be a good time to get in on the ground floor since the title has already reached the goal needed for a release on 360, PS3, and Wii U. If you were missing Mega Man, this is as close as you're going to get to him. Watch the pitch trailer and donate here.

Hotline Miami: A Short Film

Not Available Interstitial

Hotline Miami is a game that owes its continued success, in part, to the influence of 80s action films that inspired the game's aesthetic. That and the game is perfectly accompanied by a flawless soundtrack, visceral gameplay, and frenetic pace that have made all of us beyond stoked about the sequel.

A project to turn the top-down shooter into a film has turned to Indiegogo for funding and we've already donated. Watch the trailer and tell us that director Saman Kesh doesn't have the vision for the short film completely on lock. Super slick pitch trailer and you should take a minute to donate right here.

The game's Kickstarter campaign, has blown past their initial goal of $27,000 and is now sitting pretty at $250,000 and climbing. The game has been confirmed for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita and you should watch the trailer and then donate here.
