Whole Foods locations in California have begun selling Beyond Eggs, an egg-substitute composed of sorghum, mashed peas and other nameless ingredients. They're being billed as the replacement for eggs in everything from "cakes to mayonnaise," and they don't involve chickens at all.
Created by Hampton Creek, the company's mission statement states that founder Josh Tetrick was told by his best friend that eggs that come from chickens lead to higher cholesterol. Determined to birth a healthy alternative, he assembled a team to do just that. This is the end result.
If you don't believe in Beyond Eggs, just know that investors like BIll Gates do.
