Bryan Cranston will go from meth empire kingpin to blacklisted screenwriter next year: According to The Guardian, Walter White himself has already secured his first post-Breaking Bad film role, portraying suspected communist and 'Hollywood 10' member Dalton Trumbo in a new biopic, Trumbo.
The biopic is being independently funded, and will be directed by Bruno and Game Change director Jay Roach. It's based heavily off the 1977 book, Dalton Trumbo, by Bruce Cook.
If you're not familiar with Trumbo's name, trust me—you're certainly familiar with his work. The guy had a tremendous career in Hollywood during his time (though uncredited, he co-wrote the Audrey Hepburn film Roman Holiday), and it was his naming as the true screenwriter of both Spartacus and Exodus that broke the legendary Hollywood communist blacklist that basically took over Hollywood during the '40s and '50s. Though Trumbo's name was on the blacklist during that period, he continued to secretly write films under psuedonyms like Robert Rich and Guy Endore, and even won two Academy Awards while blacklisted.
Trumbo should begin filming in 2014, though it's not clear when it's expected to be released.
