Violent crime may have decreased in general in New York City this year, but Midtown Manhattan has experienced a jump in assaults. According to NYPD statistics, felony assaults have increased by 47 percent compared to the same time period last year.

Data from CompStat shows that there were 109 assaults recorded by the Midtown North Precicnt through Aug. 25. At the same point last year, there were just 74. This also marks a 53 percent increase over the same period in 2011. While police sources have yet to identify a pattern, they're aware that fights and attacks involving multiple people result in more than one complaint being filed."Each person struck is another number," the source told DNAinfo New York.

The site also reports that misdemeanor sex crimes and car thefts have risen by 26 percent and 21 percent, respectively.
