A recent Gallup poll shows that just 36 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 29 admit to having tried marijuana. That number has declined since 1999 when 46 percent of people in the same age group admitted to using and way down from 1985 when more than half (56 percent, to be exact) reported experimenting with it.

This decrease among young adults coincides with an increase in admitted use within other age groups. The percentage of people between the ages of 30 and 49 who admit to using marijuana has jumped from 41 percent in 1985 to 49 percent in 2013. The biggest increase ocurred within the 50 to 64-year-old age group where the number has at least doubled, going from 9 percent in 1985 to 22 percent in 1999 to 44 percent in 2013.
