It looks like women aren't more likely to be depressed than men. According to a study published yesterday by JAMA Psychiatry, both genders are equally depressed, refuting previous studies which showed that women were 70 percent more likely to suffer from depression. The study actually suggests that it may be more common in men than women "when its symptoms are properly" recognized in men.
This is because behavior such "anger attacks, aggression or irritability, substance abuse, risk-taking behavior and hyperactivity," all of which are more common in men, were included to broaden the definition of depression.
