We're still months away from seeing Watch Dogs drop, but that hasn't stopped Ubisoft and Sony Pictures from moving forward with a big screen adaptation of the title.

Announced at Sony's Gamescom press event, a big screen adaptation was confirmed in Variety later that afternoon. This isn't the first property that's been optioned for a Hollywood partnership. Ubisoft announced that an Assassin's Creed film is in the works as well. According the Variety,

“The themes and open gameplay of Watch Dogs lends itself perfectly to the big screen,” said Hannah Minghella, president of production for Columbia Pictures. “The game has intense action and adventure, but the story focuses on information and the control of information, which we think will lead to an exciting thriller. It has tremendous potential as a motion picture and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work closely with Ubisoft’s internal creative team on the development of the project.”

Look, we all know that Watch Dogs is going to be ridiculous. All of the footage and demos we've seen in person have all but convinced us that our fall will be a gravity well of GTA V Online and Watch Dogs where productivity goes to die. Personally we can't wait.
