According to police, a man attacked an elderly woman at Yonge-Dundas square in Toronto this past weekend, cutting off her nose. The incident occured around 2 p.m. on Saturday, when the 76-year-old woman got on the elevator to Dundas subway station during her journey home. That's when authorities say a man between the ages of 40 and 60-years-old approached, slicing her nose off before fleeing.

“Her entire nose was severed and removed,” Det. Harry Morris explained to City News, adding that it was likely done using "a knife or some sort of blade.” The woman was transported to a hospital where doctors worked to reattach her nose. Though she's been released from the hospital, Morris says she and her family are beyond concerned that she was subject to such a brutal attack "in a relatively public area."

Authorities are using surveillance footage to try and determine the suspect's identity in hope of releasing images today.
