First "Divergent" Trailer: Shailene Woodley Can't Be Held Down

The trailer is action-packed, to say the least.

There's been a lot of talk that the Divergent franchise might be the next Twilight in the sense that it has the potential to reach massive success with teen audiences, but there's one clear difference between the two films that has never been more evident until now: Divergent is actually really good. That is, judging by the first trailer, which aired last night during MTV's VMAs pre-show.

It features a whole lot of Shailene Woodley—who'da thought the girl from Secret Life of the American Teenager would go on to be a talented action film star?—with appearances by stars Theo James, Maggie Q, and Kate Winslet.

We don't get much in way of plot apart from Maggie Q telling Shailene Woodley that she's 'different,' and if people like Kate Winslet find out, she's dead, but for readers of the book it's pretty straight-forward: The story takes place in a dystopian future where Chicago is sectioned off into five groups in an effort to control them, and follows Woodley's Tris Prior, who can't be controlled. The trailer actually seems more reminiscent of The Hunger Games than anything else, which, as far as teen movie comparisons go, isn't really a bad thing.

You can check out the trailer above. Divergent is set to hit theaters in March 2014.
