It's been a while since we got that first look at Ricky Gervais's UK dramedy Derek, and with its US Netflix premiere fast approaching, it's the perfect time to check out another trailer. Netflix's trailer for the series paints it as more of an upbeat series, unlike the first trailer, which was a bit more somber to fit the whole nursing home/old dying people theme. But it's Ricky Gervais! This show's funny, as offbeat and strange as it may seem.

If you're not familiar with the show, it follows Gervais' character, Derek, a nursing home employee who is described as "slow-but-sweet." Karl Pilkington, who starred in Gervais' series An Idiot Abroad, also appears in the series as another nursing home employee.

It's already aired in full over in the UK on Channel 4, and upon its premiere, it garnered a ton of criticism—specifically, Gervais was accused by some advocates for the disabled of "mocking" those with disabilities, as Derek could at times seem mentally challenged. In responded to the criticisms in an interview that was published before the show's premiere: "Derek is a fictional character and is defined by his creator. Me. ... If I say I don't mean him to be disabled then that’s it. A fictional doctor can't come along and prove me wrong. He's different. But then so are a lot of people. He's not the smartest tool in the box but he's cleverer than Father Dougal, and not as different as Mr. Bean. He's based on those people you meet who are on the margins of society. Nerds, loners, under achievers."

The controversy didn't hurt the show, though—it managed to dominate the airwaves when it aired in the UK, and was renewed for a second season earlier this year. The entire first season is set to premiere on US Netflix on September 12th.
