In an effort to create the latest doughnut innovation, D.C.'s Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken (1308 G Street NW) has cut a doughnut in half, then packed it with ice cream. Just like that , the doughnut ice cream sandwich was born. Now, go celebrate its excellence.
Beginning at 2 p.m. today, the creation became available in two flavors: Mocha java ice cream sandwiched between a chocolate doughnut (pictured above) or raspberry verbena between a passion fruit doughnut. Both will be available for $5.25 all week long, so don't hesitate to be a guinea pig.
There's only one question to be asked: This or the cronut?
