Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail guides us through an early assault on a fort and resulting naval battle. Ismail stresses that this is an easy battle near the start of play but the intensity of the action is clear.

The video debuted at Gamescom last week. In it, protagonist pirate assassin Edward Kenway uses his ship - the Jackdaw - to destroy a fort's defenses while fighting off two defending warships. Once the ships have been repelled and the forts cannon towers have been destroyed Edward seamlessly dives off the ship and is instantly engaged in land battles. The assult is won when Kenway hunts down and assassinates the fort commanders.

Once a fort has been taken it then fights for you, meaning it will defend and fire upon enemy ships. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag drops for PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 on October 29 in North America and November 1 in Europe. PlayStation 4 versions will launch with the console on November 15 and 29 in North America and Europe, respectively, with Xbox One and Windows PC versions to follow.
