Apple CEO Tim Cook is Reportedly Put on Notice to "Innovate" and "Do Something Fast"

Apple doesn't want to lose its luster.

The problem isn't with Tim Cook's innovative ideas, it's with the innovation we can see now. That's the concensus around what Apple's board members have relayed to their CEO, and they want him to start producing innovative products ASAP.

Yes, iOS 7 is on the way (cough, anytime now, Apple) but Apple's board members—which include Al Gore, Bill Campbell, chairman of Intuit, Robert Iger, CEO of Disney, and MIllard Drexler of J. Crew—want him to pick up the pace. “That concern is basically manifesting into pressure on Tim Cook to innovate – do something fast,” reports FOX Business News correspondent Charlie Gasparino. Gasparino reports that his sources say the board is disappointed the company hasn't released any innovative products recently.

“What have they had lately? They have had the iPad, they’ve had a few other things, but they don’t have anything innovating from what came from Steve Jobs,” Gasparino said.

Apple has lost its once huge iPhone market hare thank to rivals like Android and Windows phone, and the tablet market has ballooned since the release of the original iPad. Stocks haven't been as great as before, hitting $700 to $461 now—which translates into the company losing billions.

They aren't thinking of giving him the axe just yet. “[They are] 100% behind him,” he continues.

Can Apple pick up the pace without Jobs?
