According to a survey conducted by Credit Karma, Americans would rather be skinny than get rid of their crippling debt. The poll found that 72 percent of respondents would rather continue to swim in debt than gain 25 pounds, while 43 percent agreed that weight is more imporant than debt. Furthermore, that sentiment was more common among men; 49 percent of men agreed as compared to 38 percent of women.

However, when bankruptcy was brought up, 62 percent of respondents said they would rather be overweight with no debt than skinny with a ton of loans to repay. It's at least comforting to know that Americans aren't all vain idiots.
