Finally, some good news regarding Amanda Bynes: According to TMZ, Bynes is said to be doing extremely well at the psychiatric hospital where she's being held after being given a 'cocktail' of meds used to treat schizophrenia. Doctors are, reportedly, shocked by the results—sources familiar with the situation divulged that Bynes' mood has changed dramatically in the three days since she's gone on the meds, and that she's stopped talking to herself and stopped insulting people. Instead, she's actually exhibiting polite behavior, even saying 'please' and 'thank you', with no signs of violent behavior.
It's a huge improvement for the actress, who has been held on 5150 hold at an LA-area hospital since last week, after she set fire to a residential driveway in the valley. Doctors are still just cautiously optimistic, however, because Bynes' progress in such a short amount of time is shocking—it usually takes 7-10 days for any psychiatric meds to fully take effect, and even then, it can be hard to get the dosage and combination of pills in the cocktail right.
As previously reported, Bynes is still attempting to protest the two-week extension on her 5150 hold, and is actually set to appear in front of a judge today to request release. While the evidence of her progress is visible and could potentially affect the judge's decision, sources report that doctors are confident her request won't be granted,because it's unclear if the meds will work in the long-run, and evident that she wouldn't take the drugs on her own if she was released.
As far as Bynes' parents' efforts to be granted a conservatorship for their daughter, sources also report that the two of them still plan to go through with their request, because they feel Bynes needs supervision and long-term care.
