Not much of this report is officially confirmed so we're going to go ahead and mark it down as a strong rumor, but nonetheless: According to Mediaite, a "senior" source at MSNBC has revealed that former 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin may be getting his own weekly primetime series on the network.
The details are blurry, which makes us a little skeptical about this. According to the source, the show will air at 10 PM ET on Fridays, and feature "a large dose of Baldwin’s outspoken liberal politics." Mediaite pointed out that, last year, Baldwin read segment teasers for Lawrence O'Donnell on The Last Word, which currently occupies the Friday 10 PM slot, so he's got some experience. Like, a day's worth, but still—not for nothing!
MSNBC has released a comment, but it's about as vague as the rumor itself: "We’re fans of Alec but we’ve got nothing to say regarding this unconfirmed report."
This isn't the first time that rumors about a late night show have followed Baldwin—back in April, there were rumors that he was in talks with NBC for a network late night series to take up Last Call With Carson Daly's timeslot, and in 2011, reports were floating around that Baldwin would be replacing Keith Olbermann on MSNBC after he was unceremoniously fired from Countdown with Keith Olbermann in January.
There's been no comment from Baldwin yet, but considering his distaste for the media, we can't imagine there will be one at all.
