After a three week trial George Zimmerman, the 29-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer who shot Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old black teenager in February 2012, was found not guilty. Zimmerman, who is a Sanford, Florida resident, was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges by a jury of six women.
Martin's father, Tracy Martin, reacted to the news via Twitter. Distraught, but hopeful, he wrote:
Martin was unarmed at the time of death.
