Following the release of the official poster two days ago, the first full-length trailer for Spike Lee's upcoming Oldboy remake has finally premiered.

Upon release of the official poster--which was basically a hi-res screenshot of star Josh Brolin in a box in the middle of a mysterious field--we were told that it would make sense once the trailer was released. Luckily, it doesn't disappoint, and to say the trailer is intriguing is an understatement.

The film, of course, is based on a 2003 South Korean film of the same name, which was directed by Chan-Wook Park. That film itself was based on a popular Japanese manga also of the same name, which ran between 1996 and 1998. There's been a lot of debate about whether or not the film actually needed a remake, since Park's version is already amazing (remember that hallway fight scene?), but we've got to say, judging by this trailer and the mere fact that Lee is behind the film, we're optimistic. Plus, Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Samuel L. Jackson as stars? Epic already.

The plot, if you're not familiar, follows the story of an advertising exec (Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage in solitary confinment for 20 years. When he's abruptly released for no apparent reason--in a box in the middle of a field with only sunglasses and a ton of cash, per the poster--he sets out to discover who was behind his kidnapping. Unfortunately for him, shit goes down. The trailer actually does a good job of giving us a rundown of these events, and it even previews a bit of Lee's version of the infamous hallway fight scene.

You can check out the trailer above (but note: it's red-band, AKA, NSFW). Lee's Oldboy is set to hit theaters this October.
