Tony Hawk’s Underground (THUG) became the first skateboarding game that allowed players to get off the skateboard and roam the levels on foot.
The ability to hop off the board added new moves like the wall plant and hip transfer. You could also hop into vehicles and cruise around if just skateboarding isn’t enough for you. Released in 2003, THUG is the first Tony Hawk game to not have a professional skateboarding driven storyline. The main character is literally you, a custom created character that can even have your face through face mapping technology.
THUG is a great game because it introduced skateboarding to the sandbox gaming genre.
