While camera attachments for smartphones have been out for a little while now, many of them lack the name and expertise of major camera-makers. Now, it seems, Sony is looking to get in on the mix, and they'll be releasing their own "high-end" camera attachment for your smartphone.

If reports hold up, Sony's camera attachment will feature a 1-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor and a f/1.8 Carl Zeiss len—just like the Sony RX100 II. The attachment would then come with a built-in rechargable battery and the ability to connect to Wi-Fi. Camera attachments, like the one purposed from Sony, act as a "live view" for smartphone cameras. When you decide to shoot photo or video, you can attach the lens to the back of the camera, and the lens essentially "boosts up" the power of your phone's original lens. Since this is still in the rumor mill, there's no word on a price point or release date yet, except one source says Sony is trying to release it soon.

With one of these things, just imagine how much your Instagram photos will blow everyone elses out of the water.
