The state ofNew York took its initiative to stop texting while driving to another level today, as more officers will be positioned and text-detecting equipment has been installed in unmarked police vehicles. Earlier this week, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a law that will enforce more severe penalties for teenagers caught texting while driving.

According to State Superintendent Joseph D'Amico, checkpoints will be established through the weekend to combat speeding, underage drinking, impaired driving and to make sure seat belts are being worn. Be smart and safe on the road this weekend.
