Mark Hamill. Harrison Ford. Carrie Fisher. And now, John Williams. The acclaimed film composer is confirmed to return to the galaxy far, far away to score the impending Star Wars: Episode VII. However the final film turns (Zac Efron?!) out, at least the soundtrack will be dope.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kenendy made the announcement at a fan event in Germany today, and the official Star Wars website posted a clip where Williams clarified that he hasn't seen a script yet nor does he know any story details, but he does plan to incorporate some pieces of the original, iconic theme: "The story is still unknown to me, the new story. But I can't imagine that there will not be some references to the existing stories that we know that would necessitate, and make appropriate, the use of some of the earlier themes."
The news may seem obvious, but with J.J. Abrams at the helm, it was entirely possible that he'd bring longtime collaborator Michael Giacchino - who has composed a few classic scores himself, mostly on Lost - on board to write something entirely new for Episode VII.
