JetBlue Underestimates How Badly People Want to Escape NYC Heat Wave

It's that bad.

It seemed like a really good idea at the time. JetBlue Airways decided it would capitalize off the heat wave that's practically melted the East Coast by offering as much as 90 percent off round-trip fares from New York airports when Central Park temperatures hit 90 degrees by midday. Apparently, they didn't expect such an overwhelming response. Has anyone been outside lately?

The deal, which was supposed to last through today, ended on Thursday when the temperature reached a sweltering 97 degrees. The airline was forced to issue a statement saying: “Our systems just weren’t able to manage the volume of New Yorkers looking to beat the heat." To make it up to customers, they offered 25 percent off flights booked by 4 p.m. yesterday from JFK International and LaGuardia airports in New York and Newark Liberty International. Granted, this was for flights from Sep. 3 to Oct. 31 when it won't be as hot.

So yes, it's so hot in New York City that residents are desperate for escape.
