Yesterday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that more G trains will arrive earlier during the evening rush. Unfortunately, the MTA says the change will not begin until June 2014, meaning G train platforms will look like the paint during a late '90s Knicks vs. Heat playoff series for the next 11 months. Either that, or desolate ghost towns.
A review of the G's service led to the deicision to have trains arrive every 8 minutes as opposed to every 10 minutes from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. These type of changes cost money, and the state was able to provide MTA with the extra $700,000 through what Cuomo's office called "aggressive cost-cutting within MTA operations and increased revenues from fares, tolls, subsidies and dedicated taxes."
This press release from the governor's office includes the other improve—er, investments that passengers will have to wait for.
