Not all data is useful data. EmojiTracker, for instance. The website quantifies up-to-the-second use of emoticons on Twitter. It's a mesmerizing visualization, sure, but pretty useless beyond the few minutes you'll spend on the page seeing which emojis get tweeted the most. The site notes: "this is an experiment in realtime tracking of all emoji used on Twitter. It takes advantage of a number of technologies, notably the twitter streaming API, redis, SSE, and other good stuff." NewYorker.com editor Matt Buchanan summed up EmojiTracker best with a tweet: "lol," he wrote.
