Take a Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Season 3 Poster for "Wilfred"

Elijah Wood, Jason Gann, and five gambling pooches, together at last.

On the dark and subversively hilarious FX comedy Wilfred, Elijah Wood plays a suburban guy who, thanks to being a little bit off-center, interacts with his neighbor's dog as if it's a human, and sees it in the form of Jason Gann. Back for its third season on June 20 (premiering at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. EST), Wilfred has plenty more canine-centric humor and delightful strangeness in store, and what's the best way to celebrate such doggie weirdness? By recreating the epitome of pooch art, of course.

For Wilfred's season 3 promotional poster art, the show's creative team has recreated Cassius Marcellus Coolidge's iconic painting "A Friend in Need," better known as that painting with the dogs playing poker. In Wilfred's reinterpretation, co-stars Wood and Gann are dealing cards alongside five real-life canines, all trained by A-List Animals. Initially planning on shooting all of the dogs individually, the producers and photographers intended on combining them all together during post-production. But, like true four-legged professionals, all five dogs behaved wonderfully, resulting in the final poster art you see above. Though we're pretty sure it's not casino-legal to stand on a poker table with your derriere pointed at other players, but that's just semantics.

Feeling the urge to place some bets yourself? Head on over to the show's official site to play some Wilfred Poker (www.fxnetworks.com/wilfredpoker) or its Facebook page (http://apps.facebook.com/wilfredpoker). Before that, though, get to know the poster's five method-acting dogs individually as the display their best poker faces in the following gallery.
