In a recent interview with Polygon, Zenimax parent company vice-president Pete Hines explained why a next-gen Fallout sequel wasn’t unveiled at this year’s E3: it’s not ready yet.

“We are not into annual franchises – just trying to spin out a version of our game year, after year, after year,” Hines said not referring specifically to any not-officially-announced new Fallout title while noting that fans shouldn’t make assumptions or have expectations despite the Zenimax-owned Bethesda having already said it has moved on to a new project.

“That doesn't mean that we are going to take our time and wait six or seven years in between a game that a studio puts out,” he said. “But these are big games that take a long time and folks need to understand that we have a very certain way of going about things."

Hines also mentioned Zenimax remains committed to immersion and original IP, which, judging from the interesting new direction of Wolfenstein (and the very fact that The Evil Within is being published by a Western company) seems like a good thing.
