Behaviour Interactive has acquired the rights to a Warhammer MMO and is currently developing Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade for next-gen consoles and PC.

Warhammer MMO's have been batted around by several companies over the years, but Naughty Bear studio will create the first-ever MMO in the 40K universe following the dissolution of THQ and it's Dark Millennium Online game.

Eternal Crusade will be a shooter with "brutal melee combat" set on a persistent planet savaged by the war you and your friends fight in. Players will choose factions - Space Marines, Eldar, Orks, and Chaos - and customize their characters as they progress. The game details feature pretty standard unlockables, vehicles like Rhinos and Battlewagons in "genuinely challenging procedural content" that aims to give players a varied experience. The game will feature on over-the-shoulder view of battles with thousands of players fighting for resources and territory.

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade isn't set for release until 2015, let's hope that's enough time to make the game more than the slash-fest predecessors. Can a Warhammer MMO keep you interested in the long run?
