Do you miss the New York of old? This photo of Lower Manhattan taken in 1888 will remind you of the good ol' days—if it doesn't intimidate you. The picture was taken in at 59 1/2 Mulberry Street (Bandit's Roost) and the gentlemen "posing" for it don't exactly look excited. Or welcoming. The image comes from Jacob Riis'How the Other Half Lives, a look at how poor New Yorkers lived during the 1880s. This is the original hood.
