If you’re familiar with Remedy’s work on Max Payne and Alan Wake, you know that company head Sam Lake has a fascination with television. With the Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break, it seems like the Finnish game studio is taking the tv integration to the next level, styling the gameplay and watching elements of time-bending sci-fi title to interact.

“They are connected in many different ways,” Lake said in a recent interview with Game Informer. ”The idea is that you get this deeper entertainment experience and they are interwoven, so we are aiming to get the perfect TV show-model pacing. So you play an episode of the game, you do certain junction points and choices along the way, and once you get to the end, we unlock an episode of the show. You get to watch it and see the consequences of the choices you’ve made in the game.”

Lake also said something like Quantum Break has been a long time coming, given Remedy use of television in previous efforts.

“To me this feels like a natural progression, and we’ve been on this path for a while now,” he said. “We obviously draw a lot from pop culture and that’s our inspiration. But at the same time we’re trying to create this immersive, fictional world in the game.”
