Peter Jackson's epic Lord of the Rings trilogy started filming 14 years ago. He reunited with many beloved characters for the prequel, The Hobbit, but Orlando Bloom is already saying goodbye to the role  that made him famous.

Bloom scored the role just two days after graduation in 1999, and his performance as the flaxen-haired elf lead to another blockbuster franchise: Pirates of the Carribbean. "A day after saying goodbye to Gandalf and Tauriel, it was time to farewell Legolas," Jackson wrote on Facebook. "What a great day it was, with Orlando battling a serious Orc for all 12 hours of shooting—part of the Battle of the 5 Armies for the third Hobbit movie."

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey came out in December, but Bloom began filming as early as 2011, though Legolas didn't appear in the first film. "It's great, it's like going back to a family reunion," Bloom said at the time.

Jackson also posted a video with his farewell to Bloom: "When we finally got the day done, we said goodbye to Orlando, had a couple of beers...and couldn't resist doing this!"
