Yesterday evening, NYPD officers responded to a report of a car accident in Brownsville. Upon arrival, they found a livery cab driver with blood pouring out of a wound to his eye. He would later be pronounced dead on arrival at Brookdale Hospital, but now authorities believe he was stabbed with an umbrella during a grisly robbery.

Witnesses claim that the man attempted to drive away after being stabbed around 5:30 p.m., but crashed the vehicle about a block away. Lena Taylor, who called 911, told the New York Post that the man "already looked dead" when emergency responders cut him out of the vehicle.

Two people—a man and a woman—were reportedly seen escaping from the vehicle just before the crash. The man's drivers ID was also missing when he was discovered. The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a $3,000 reward for information that will lead to an arrest and conviction in the crime.
