The Last of the Mohicans is getting the limited series treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an adaptation of James Fenimore Cooper's classic 1826 novel is in development over at FX, with the man who co-wrote the screenplay for the 1992 film adaptation, Chris Crowe, on board to pen the script.

The project is described as "the story of America's beginnings as a nation as told through the eyes of Cooper's classic characters from the historical novel." As it's still in the very early development stages, there's no word on exactly who will star, or how long the limited series will be.

The 1992 film adaptation of the book starred Daniel Day Lewis, and grossed about $75 million domestically upon its release.
