Joining the ranks of celebrity superheroes like Jennifer Lawrence and Ryan Gosling, John Malkovich reportedly saved a man's life last Thursday in Toronto. What did you do last week, huh?

According to the Toronto Star, 77-year-old Jim Walpole of Ohio and his 79-year-old wife, Marilyn, were visiting Toronto last week as the final part of a cross-country trip around Canada. After leaving a restaurant in the downtown area, Walpole tripped on a curb and fell onto a piece of scaffolding which cut his throat. Marilyn, who is a nurse, began calling for help as Walpole was bleeding profusely, believing that he may have cut his cartoid artery or jugular vein.

It was then that Malkovich reportedly stepped in, and was able to stop the flow of blood until the paramedics arrived to transport Walpole to a hospital.

"I believe (Malkovich) was having a cigarette and witnessed the whole thing happening," Chris Mathias, a doorman from the King Edward Hotel where the Walpoles were staying, recalled. "He placed his hand and started applying pressure to the man’s neck didn’t let go until the ambulance arrived." Mathias also said he sprinted over to Walpole's aid, as did Ben Quinn, the manager of the restaurant where the couple had just had dinner.

"I was bleeding so bad on my neck and Chris bought him a towel and John kept pressure on my bleeding neck and then Quinn kept me from turning over and made me stay there until EMS arrived," Walpole explained.

Walpole was soon transported to a nearby hospital, where he received ten stitches. "I never had the opportunity to see him and thank him after the incident," Walpole told the Toronto Star, before commenting that he didn't even know who Malkovich was at the time. "I asked him what his name was and he said it was John...I’m forever grateful to him, he really helped me out."
